The Elements

Crystals and stones have been used in the arts of alchemy and magic for ages. Different stones are traditionally associated with different elements of nature. The traditional four elements in Western culture are Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.


Signs are Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Earth represents practicality, stability, materialism, realism. Practical and dependable, earth signs provide the resources necessary for the functions of life. There usually a deep affinity with nature. Earth signs are the builders of long-lasting structures.

Earth Stones – Agate, Emerald, Green Jade, Green Tourmaline, Halite (salt rock crystal), Hematite, Jasper, Jet, Malachite, Onyx, Obsidian, Peridot, Quartz, Salt (all types), Black Tourmaline


Signs are Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Air symbolizes mental processes, language, intellect, reason, human communication and social relationships. Air signs provide the ideas that make things happen.

Air Stones – Amethyst, Citrine, Diamond, Mica, Opal, Tiger Eye, Topaz, Turquoise, White/Clear Fluorite, Zircon


Signs are Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. Fire symbolizes passion, energy, impulse, enthusiasm, inspiration, idealism, faith. Fire signs are the leaders and the cheerleaders of the zodiac. They provide us with much needed inspiration, motivation and creative energy.

Fire Stones – Amber, Carnelian, Citrine, Fire Agate, Fire Opal, Garnet, Red Calcite, Red Jasper, Red Tourmaline, Ruby, Sardonyx, Sunstone, Volcanic Black Salt (natural)


Signs are Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. Water symbolizes emotion, mysticism,  and intuition. These signs are the “feelers,” the nurturers, the caretakers.
